Marrying Human and Artificial Intelligence forSocial and Personal Impact

Dunster House Courtyard

How can AI accelerate social impact? Ted Ladd, Instructor at Harvard’s DCE and Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Hult International Business School, and Milind Tambe, Harvard’s Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science and Director of Center for Research on Computation and Society (SEAS), will discuss how can – and cannot – address some of society’s most pressing challenges. Join us for this opportunity to explore the future of technology-driven change and gain insights about where technology meets humanity.

Ted Ladd is a Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Hult International Business School and an Instructor at Harvard Division of Continuing Education. He has won 15 teaching awards in the past nine years. His most recent start-up was purchased by Google for its smartwatch software. He was the former Dean of the San Francisco campus, former founding Dean of Research, and former founding Academic Director of the Doctorate of Business Administration at Hult. Ted has also taught at Stanford University and the Copenhagen Business School. He holds a PhD in Management from Case, and MBA from Wharton, an MA in Economics from Johns Hopkins, a BA triple major from Cornell, and a farrier’s certificate from the Oklahoma School of Horseshoeing. His latest book, Innovating with Impact, was published by the Economist.

Milind Tambe is Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science and Director of Center for Research on Computation and Society at Harvard University. Concurrently, he is also the Principal Scientist and Director for “AI for Social Good” at Google Deepmind. Professor Tambe and his team have developed pioneering AI systems that deliver real-world impact in public health (e.g., maternal and child health), public safety, and wildlife conservation. Tambe and his team’s work focuses on advancing AI and multiagent systems for public health, conservation & public safety, with a track record of building pioneering AI systems for social impact. In so doing, this research has often provided the very first uses of key multiagent systems models and algorithms in the real world. Prior to Harvard, Professor Tambe was the Helen N and Emmett H Jones Professor in Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was awarded the USC Associates Award for creativity in research.
