FAS Non-Discrimination, Anti-Bullying, and Other Conduct Policies

Dear FAS Community,

I am writing to share an update on FAS conduct policies, in light of the University’s new policies on non-discrimination and anti-bullying, which went into effect on September 1, 2023.

The FAS has fully adopted the University’s policies and procedures on non-discrimination and anti-bullying.

In addition, the FAS has updated its existing local conduct policies and procedures based on the recommendations from the FAS Committee to Review Conduct Policies and Procedures (CRCPP) and in alignment with the University’s new policies and procedures. The FAS policies can be found on the new Non-Discrimination, Anti-Bullying, and Other Conduct Policies website (https://www.fas.harvard.edu/reports/conduct-policy/). The website also provides contact information for Local Designated Resources (LDRs), who serve as a resource for receiving reports and complaints, directing community members to resources, and providing information on supportive measures.

I am deeply grateful to the CRPCC for their thoughtful work, including extensive outreach to faculty, staff, students, and researchers spanning the academic divisions and SEAS. I also want to thank the FAS students, faculty, staff, and researchers who served on the university-wide Working Groups, as well as those who provided input on the policies directly to the university or during one of the FAS Town Hall feedback sessions. All of these efforts ensured that the FAS perspective played a pivotal role in steering this significant policy change. The FAS policies on non-discrimination, anti-bullying, and other conduct shared with you today will serve as a roadmap to help guide us forward together.

At its core, these policies help to ensure that the FAS is a safe place where everyone can thrive and do their best work. Each of us shares an important responsibility to uphold the community values and standards that set the conditions for excellence in our teaching and research mission. I ask that you take a moment to review these materials and familiarize yourself with the new resources now available to our community.

Best,

Hopi
