Winter Weather Update: Monday, January 26, 2026
Dear FAS students, faculty, staff, and researchers,
Following the earlier message from the University, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) will remain open tomorrow, Monday January 26, with all Harvard College and Harvard Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) classes held as scheduled, when possible. Faculty who cannot safely get to campus can view options for remote teaching here. We ask faculty members who are unable to teach remotely and need to reschedule their College/GSAS classes to please notify their enrolled students and note these changes on their course websites. For information about the Division of Continuing Education, please visit their website.
All non-essential administrative staff are encouraged to work remotely, if able.
The safety of our students, faculty, researchers, and staff remains our top priority. Additional details and specific guidance are outlined below.
- FAS community members who need to alter their work schedules due to unsafe travel conditions in their local areas or other personal circumstances (such as childcare needs) should contact their supervisors. Managers are encouraged to provide flexibility for remote work. Staff members who are unable to work remotely should enter personal or vacation time in PeopleSoft. Additional guidance can be found on the FAS HR website.
- For employees who are designated as essential, normal work expectations apply. Every effort should be made to come to work, absent a previously approved absence or illness. Essential personnel who find themselves in a specific circumstance that would make travel unsafe must contact their supervisor as soon as possible to obtain approval to be absent and must follow up with their supervisor whenever circumstances change, and they are able to return to work.
- Lamont Library will be open as a study space only. Please monitor the Harvard Library website for updates about hours and closures.
- The Harvard Museums of Science and Culture will close at 3:00 p.m. today and will remain closed all day on Monday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday.
- Transportation Services will open the 52 Oxford Street and Soldiers Field Park garages at 7:00 a.m. in advance of local parking bans. These garages are available for Harvard essential staff reporting to campus, and permit holders are encouraged to use them rather than surface lots to facilitate snow removal. Harvard shuttles will remain operational. Please refer to the live shuttle tracker for estimated arrival times and exercise caution when navigating snowy conditions. Weather-related delays are likely. Please plan accordingly.
- University Health Services will offer urgent care only.
Thank you for taking the time to review this guidance. I will be in touch to share any additional updates as needed. Please also keep an eye on harvard.edu/emergency.
And please stay safe and warm!
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Bradley
Interim Dean for Administration and Finance
