FAS Dean for Administration and Finance

Dear Colleagues,

I write to share the news that Scott Jordan, Dean for Administration and Finance in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), will be leaving Harvard on July 18 to become the next Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. 

Since joining Harvard in 2021, Scott has provided steady and thoughtful leadership to the FAS during a period of significant challenge and change. Supporting FAS Dean Claudine Gay, he played an instrumental role in helping the School navigate the financial uncertainty of the pandemic and its aftermath. During my own tenure as dean, Scott has remained a vital partner — strengthening long-term planning and resource management while helping the FAS to respond to new financial pressures.

Scott forged strong partnerships across the University, ensuring close alignment between FAS priorities and broader institutional goals. He led initiatives to streamline administrative operations, improve financial forecasting, and foster greater transparency and collaboration across departments and schools. He also worked to strengthen the FAS’s administrative infrastructure, developing a talented senior team across key operational areas.

In addition to addressing administrative goals across the academic divisions, Scott has been a champion of the Harvard College undergraduate experience — most notably, supporting the ongoing renewal of the undergraduate House system and partnering with HUDS, both to expand dining options for our kosher students and to ensure that dining options are always available to undergraduates living in Harvard housing, whether or not classes are in session.

Throughout his time at Harvard, Scott has shown an unwavering commitment to the mission of the FAS and to ensuring that administrative operations enable and enhance academic excellence. I am grateful for his many contributions and know he will bring the same clarity, steadiness, and integrity to his new role at Trinity College, where he will serve as a senior partner to the president.

Over the coming weeks, we will identify interim leadership as we prepare to search for Scott’s successor. In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Scott on this exciting new opportunity and thanking him for his outstanding service to the FAS.
