Continuing the work set out by the Faculty Workload Committee (FWC) report, the Office of Faculty Affairs is conducting an audit of work the administration requests of faculty to better understand how faculty are spending their time and determine where work can be eliminated, done more efficiently, or performed by administrative staff. When the workload audit is completed, the data and analysis will be presented to the faculty. The FAS leadership team is also strategizing ways to standardize non-research work expectations across the divisions; better coordinate committee service across the divisions, FAS, President’s and Provost’s Office; implement differential salary increases based on merit in both research and non-research work; and reward faculty who far exceed non-research work expectations. In addition to implementing the recommendations of the FWC report, the Office for Faculty Affairs is also piloting new policies to better support faculty with families. These include allowing an additional appointment extension and semester of teaching relief for faculty who take a medical leave; setting the starting tenured salaries of faculty who took appointment extensions at a level commiserate with their incoming tenure-track cohort; and paying to hold a slot at a Campus Child Care center for up to one semester for children born “off-cycle.”
