Harvard Students Participate at American College Dance Festival

This year the American College Dance Festival Association’s New England Regional Festival will be held at Boston University from February 14th – 17th. The Festival, which gathers students and instructors from various New England colleges, consists of master classes, an improv jam, two informal concerts, a faculty concert, three adjudicated concerts and a Gala concert.

Ryuji Yamaguchi ’03, an Eliot House resident, will be presenting, for adjudication, a new choreographic work at this year’s festival. Yamaguchi is a veteran dancer and choreographer of the festival, having participated in last year’s festival held at the University of Maine. Yamaguchi along with fellow student, Elizabeth Waterhouse ’01 (co-winner of the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts at Harvard), was also invited to perform an original duet in the final Gala showcase concert, the culmination to the week’s activities. On campus, Ryuji has danced and choreographed successfully for Dancers’ Viewpointe, Against the Grain, HR Dance Company, and many other campus events.

Last year marked the first year that Harvard brought a small group of students to dance and create alongside approximately 300 students from New England colleges, most of whom are dance majors.

Students interested in participating in the Festival as a dancer or choreographer should contact Liz Bergmann or call (617) 495-8683. For further information, visit the festival.
