Ceramics Studio "Clay All Night"Looking for total immersion in the world of clay, kilns, wheel-throwing, and glazes? The Office for the Arts' Ceramics Program, located at 219 Western Ave. in Allston just beyond the Harvard Stadium (a 15-minute walk from Harvard Square), offers undergraduates and members of the Harvard and Boston communities a dynamic learning environment in which to experiment with many techniques and forms of ceramic art. Undergraduates are especially encouraged to participate in several special upcoming events sponsored by the program. Students attending "Clay All Night" are encouraged to contribute to a collaborative public art project entitled "UniverCity." According to Nancy Selvage, Director of the Ceramics Program, the intent of the project is to depict "the diverse urban concepts and fantasies that converge on Harvard Square in the minds of its annually renewed group of citizens from across the globe." It will take the form of a collection of imaginary models of urban structures and/or open spaces, constructed and painted by members of the Harvard community and situated on the Mt. Auburn St. Plaza outside of Holyoke Center in late October. There are opportunities for dozens of creative contributions in a wide range of three- and two-dimensional materials. Undergraduates will have another opportunity to contribute to the
"UniverCity" project at an open studio session on Sunday,
September 30, 1-6 pm. For more information and to register for Ceramics
Program courses, call 617.495.8680 or visit the program's website.
