"SFPCC does an excellent job of offering the blend of safety, fun and developmental encouragement that we sought in a quality child care center. The frequently changing classrooms provide fantastic places for the children to learn and explore. The hot lunch meals are yummy and nutritious. The teachers are caring and skillful. Our child loves going to school and has been thriving physically, socially and intellectually."

Lunch Program

SFPCC is the only Harvard-affiliated Center with a full-time cook on staff and our own kitchen facilities. We serve a freshly prepared hot or cold lunch to all children daily. Daily lunch and snack are automatically included with your enrollment and do not require a separate fee. Our cook plans monthly menus in advance and copies are put in each child’s mail pocket, as well as posted on each classroom’s bulletin board. Please take a look at a sample menu.

Lunches consist of a protein food (meat, cheese or beans), predominantly fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, pastas and organic milk. Whole milk is served on the infant side and 2% milk is served on the preschool side. Our menu exposes children to a wide variety of foods and they are encouraged to taste these varieties.

A morning and afternoon snack are also served each day. Snacks usually consist of fruit, cheese, yogurt, cereal, crackers, and water—in various combinations. In the older classes, somtimes snack is the result of a classroom-cooking project! When the weather is nice, we occasionally have snack outside—see our Infant 2 class (below) enjoying a springtime morning picnic on the surrounding Harvard Business School grounds.

Special food needs are accommodated whenever possible. In the case of children with allergies, or families whose diets are different from those of the Center (e.g. vegetarian) we will be happy to work with you to provide appropriate substitutions for your child to eat.

Due to the large number of children with severe allergic reactions to nuts, the Center strives to be “nut free”.
