The Shelby White - Leon Levy Program for Archaeological Publications supports research on terminated and unpublished archaeological field work from significant sites in the Aegean, Anatolia, Balkans, Iranian Plateau, Levant, and Mesopotamia. Since its inception, in 1997, over seven million dollars in grants has been awarded to 150 scholars. Application is open to archaeologists holding the doctorate, or to doctoral candidates conducting research on unpublished field work, provided they can devote full time to the publication project.
The Program awards grants for up to three years on a contractual basis, and, on the condition that the applicant has secured the legal right to access and to prepare the materials for publication. The grantee is responsible for reporting annually to the Board on the project's progress towards publication.
In 2006, Program-funded research projects are underway in the archaeological study of the Aegean, Anatolia, the Balkans, Cyprus, the Iranian Plateau, the Levant, and Mesopotamia.
The program is funded by the generosity of the Leon Levy Foundation.
