Docent Program
At the Semitic Museum, we aim to inform and inspire people of all ages and from all backgrounds about archaeology and the ancient near east. Guided tours of the Museum’s exhibits play an important role in delivering on this vision for public outreach – and the Museum couldn’t do it without the dedicated efforts of volunteer Docents.
Docents begin their work at the Museum with training designed to provide a solid foundation about the archaeology of the near east and about Harvard’s collections. As part of the initial training program, you will learn about the Museum’s exhibits from experts in the field, and you will polish your public speaking skills in the company of fellow Docents. Following the training period, Docents are ready to guide Museum visitors through any of the current exhibits.
Docents at the Semitic Museum are students, retirees, stay-at-home parents and full-time workers. If you like to work with people and want to learn about museums and the ancient near east, consider applying to become a Semitic Museum Docent.
