Form: White Slip II bowl. Wide, hemispherical body, plain rim, folded-in by handle attachment, stumps, ovoid in section, of what probably was a wishbone handle. Fabric: Grey clay, more orange in color toward the exterior of the section, with white inclusions and shiny sandy grits. Decoration: Thick beige slip, worn and flaking in places in the interior. Very clear decoration in dark brown to orange matt paint on the exterior: horizontal lattice band of 4 lines around rim, doesn't meet at handle, pendent vertical lattice bands alternate with hatched/laddered bands in direction of base, 3 sets of 2 lines of dots, each line placed either side of the wider multiple ladder pattern, 1 set opposite the handle. Technical/Manufacturing: Handmade or perhaps moldmade. In-fold of rim probably is the result of the potter attaching the handle. Remarks: Provenance unknown. Common type of White Slip II bowl, also known as a "milk bowl" due to its usual milky-white colored slip. Painted decoration called White Slip Paint B in Karageorghis and Stampolidis (eds)1998:108, Bowl 10. Late Cypriot II (1450-1225 B.C.), ca. 1400 B.C. in date.
