Benefits-... is an official avenue for communication on benefits for the faculty, professional, and administrative staff of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. It is primarily responsible for monitoring internal and external conditions affecting these benefits, and for reporting regularly on their effectiveness and viability to the Faculty.

Gary King (chair).

Bowdoin Prizes, Administration of...is primarily responsible for administering the multiple Bowdoin prizes by reading and ranking the essays submitted in all subjects by students at all levels of undergraduate and graduate advancement, excepting the Greek and Latin submissions which are read and judged by a subcommittee from the Department of the Classics.

Commencement Parts...is primarily responsible for choosing the three Commencement speakers and coaching their oratory skills.

Richard J. Tarrant (chair - on leave spring term), Richard F. Thomas (acting chair spring term), Peter J. Gomes, Harry R. Lewis, Jacqueline O'Neill, John P. Reardon, Jr., Michael Shinagel, and William Mills Todd, III.

Continuing Education...oversees the formation and implementation of educational policy governing continuing education in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Barry C. Mazur (chair - on leave spring term), Patricia Rowe Chaput, Warren D. Goldfarb (on leave fall term), Nancy L. Maull, Christie McDonald, Gregory Nagy, Steven E. Ozment, Elaine Scarry, and Mark Schiefsky.

General Scholarships and the Sheldon Fund...is responsible for overseeing the administration of slightly more than one hundred funds which have been assigned to the Committee without specific assignment by the donor to one particular school. These funds include Scholarships, Fellowships, Traveling Fellowships, a few Trust Funds, Beneficiary Aid Funds and a small number of Loan Funds.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (chair), the Deans of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Deans of the Faculties of Business Administration, Dental Medicine, Design, Divinity, Education, Government, Law, Medicine, and Public Health.

Information Technology... oversees the Faculty's computer services and advises the Dean on information technology policies and priorities.

Library...reviews and advised the Dean on major policies governing the Harvard College Library, including policies concerned with circulation, fees, hours of operation, acquisitions, new media, collection development, management and preservation, information technology, physical spaces, the disposition of the collections, and the Harvard Depository.

Pedagogical Improvement—...was created to assure the continuation and development of the Derek Bok Center on Teaching and Learning.

Thomas Kelly (chair), Andrew Biewener, Benjamin M. Friedman, Xiao-Li Meng, Margo I. Seltzer, and Theda Skocpol.

Privacy, Accessibility, and Security of Records...is primarily responsible for the hearing of petitions, and the adjudication of individual cases brought to its attention regarding privacy, accessibility and security raised by Faculty members or students.

Professional Conduct...was appointed to advise the Dean and individual faculty members on problems involving conflicts of interest and commitment. It is also responsible for a first review of allegations of such matters as plagiarism or falsification of data by a member of the faculty or research staff.

Science Center, Executive Committee of the...has responsibility for overseeing the operation of the Center and developing the general policies governing its operation. The membership of the Committee includes faculty (usually senior) from each of the departments carrying out substantial activities in the Center.

Women—...is responsible for monitoring all phases of the status of women in the University to insure that at all levels, from incoming freshman to full professor, women have the freedom, security and respect needed to elicit their greatest personal development and contribution to the community.
