The iSight camera can be used for microscopy. To do so, remove the lens and disable the autofocus mechanism:

Materials needed.

Remove two screws and plastc guard ring.

Remove aluminum housing.

Peel back black mesh. Unlock and unplug J2 (on/off switch) and J1 (signal). The locks are small black tabs. Take care not to damage L3.

Remove three screws and iris housing. Work out the lens assembly carefully.

Unlock and unplug J2' (autofocus). Remove three screws.

Remove CCD and window.

Remove three screws and detach lens housing.

Remove three black screws (two face down, one faces up). Carefully open lens assembly.

Detach spring. Lift out lens (pull up with tweezers relative to center pin).

Replace black cover and three black screws.

Reattach lens housing to iris with three screws and replace window.

Reattach CCD, but leave J2' unplugged (this disables the autofocus motor).

Reattach lens assembly.

Plug in and lock J1 and J2.

Replace black mesh and aluminum housing.

Snap in plastic cover and replace two screws.
