To receive the A.M.
in Regional Studies—East Asia, a student must satisfy the requirements
established by GSAS for all master's degree candidates as well as those
additionally determined by the RSEA Committee. These may be grouped into
four categories; in brief, they are:
o Residence: Register and pay tuition for at least one year
as a full-time student (minimum GSAS requirement). RSEA is normally
a two-year program.
o Academic: Ordinarily, satisfactorily complete 16 half-courses
of instruction, of which at least eight must satisfy the RSEA East Asian
course requirements, as defined by the Committee.
o Language: Achieve proficiency in an East Asian language at
least to the level of a completed third-year Harvard language course
or the equivalent.
o Thesis: Submit an approved research
paper that meets the RSEA Committee's standards for a master's thesis.
