SENIOR PRECEPTOR IN SPANISH LANGUAGE/HARVARD UNIVERSITY
The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures seeks applications for a Senior Preceptor in Spanish language beginning in the academic year 2010-2011.
The appointment is renewable every five years based on performance and curricular need. The Senior Preceptor will teach Spanish language at all levels, in addition to coordinating language courses and training teaching fellows and teaching assistants.
Candidates should have professional expertise in teaching language at all levels, as well as familiarity with theories of second language acquisition/applied linguistics and experience using technology in the second language classroom. Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years of experience in post-secondary teaching, including curriculum design, supervision of teaching assistants, and undergraduate advising. An advanced degree in an appropriate field and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.

2010 SUMMER SCHOOL COORDINATOR
Venice, Italy
The Harvard Summer School seeks a Coordinator for the 2010 program in Venice, Italy. Planning and other responsibilities begin in Cambridge in early 2010, and the Coordinator must be in residence in Venice, June 1 through July 31, 2010.
Before the program dates, the Coordinator will work with HSS staff on marketing and recruiting, be available to talk with students about the program, and help plan and staff information sessions. The Coordinator will also work on student admissions and notify applicants of their decision status (accepted, waitlist, decline). With the help of HSS, the Coordinator will maintain a program iSite that provides students and faculty with logistical and academic information about the program. Finally, the Coordinator will help arrange at least one student pre-departure meeting, to orient students to the program and location and provide information prior to departure.
While in Venice, the Coordinator will have oversight of the dormitories, provide administrative support to the program, and liaise with Ca’ Foscari University, our host in Venice. The Coordinator will serve as a general advisor to 50 to 60 HSS students and will deal with student issues, adjustment to life abroad, as well as student health and safety issues. At all times, the Coordinator will be supported by HSS academic and student life staff back in Cambridge.
The position will be provided a stipend, as well as airfare, lodgings with breakfast, and a daily living supplement.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will be a current Harvard graduate student or affiliate with fluent Italian and experience in a residential setting. Familiarity with Harvard College students and policies a plus. The position requires mature judgment, excellent communication skills, and administrative competence, as well as the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and local
Italian officials and resources.
