5. OSP Update (Helia Morris and Tiffany Blackman)

  • GMAS Rollout Implementation Plan (GRIP) subcommittee is organizing an info session and demo of the new electronic process for UPAS forms and At-Risk Accounts in GMAS. Info/demo sessions will be at 2pm on Thursday, January 27th and Thursday, February 10th in the Lamont Library Forum Room. For more information, please contact Sheila Doyle at sedoyle@fas.harvard.edu.
  • NIH and NSF updates:
    1. NIH sent a notice to say that we have to use X-Train as of January 1, 2011, to do all terminations and statements of appointment for T institutional training grants as well as for F31s and F32s. Please contact your OSP representative if you need help or if you have to set up accounts for trainees.
    2. NSF has a new grants.gov user guide. Always refer back to your program announcement -- sometimes they allow you to use grants.gov, but sometimes they require the use of FastLane. Use the "Proposal FastLane Update" feature to fix errors.
    3. NIH, as of 1/25/2011, is getting rid of the two-day correction window for errors in grants.gov submissions, so now the 5pm deadline will be hardcore, meaning all fixes will be due before 5pm on the proposal due date.

6. RCR Proposal Language (Pat Fitzgerald)

Mark Barnes, HU Chief Compliance Officer, spoke at the December 16th NCURA RADG meeting about NIH and NSF requirements for Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training. To fulfill these requirements, there will be a new RCR course offered in Cambridge starting in March, 2011, taught by Mark and by Dr. Delia Wolf, Director of the School of Public Health Office of Human Research Administration. The requirement for RCR training includes undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who receive salary support from NIH or NSF grants. Additional information about RCR can be found here, including a description of the new RCR course that can be included in NIH proposals.

The new five-day policy will be effective February 1, 2011, and we will be communicating that shortly to faculty members, both in face-to-face meetings and via a memo from Mark Barnes and Cathy Gorodentsev.
