Due to their potential for abuse, items identified by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health are subject to extensive licensing, registration, storage, security, use, disposal, and inventorying requirements. In order to ensure compliance with Harvard’s obligations under the Controlled Substance regulations and licenses, it is important that authorized faculty and research staff, laboratory administrators, and affected departments understand their responsibilities in connection with obtaining, preparing, handling, and using Controlled Substances.
