FAS Research Administration actively supports the educational mission of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences by: enhancing training; addressing emerging issues; anticipating and solving problems; improving systems in collaboration with researchers, scholars, and administrators across the FAS and throughout the University; and representing the interests of FAS researchers and administrators in discussions with University decision-makers. Essential components of our mission include:
Facilitating Research
- Coordinating efficient and accountable management of research and other sponsored programs from proposal development, through submission and acceptance, to the end of the life cycle of the award in partnership with researchers, departmental and central administrators, and the Office for Sponsored Programs.
- Promoting the growth of research within FAS and University academic priorities.
- Supporting decision-making by gathering, organizing, analyzing, and reporting information.
- Providing leadership to FAS research administrators in departments and centers and encouraging their professional growth through training and networking.
Developing, Interpreting, and Implementing Research Policy
- Facilitating dialogue among FAS faculty and administrators, other Schools, central administration, and external sponsors.
- Drafting FAS policy positions and advocating for them in negotiations with others.
- Developing implementation plans in concert with University decision makers, departments and centers.
- Interpreting policy and implementation plans and providing direction to departments and centers.
Ensuring Successful Research Management
- Fostering a culture of successful research management by educating researchers and administrators about current and evolving research regulations, policies, and management practices.
- Advising the FAS and the University to enable wise judgments about acceptable levels of risk in the context of our educational and research missions.
- Developing and administering systems and procedures designed to help FAS researchers and administrators comply with FAS and University policies, applicable voluntary standards, and regulatory and legal requirements.
