Philippe Van Parijs holds a D.Phil in Philosophy from Oxford University and a doctorate in the social sciences from the University of Louvain (Belgium), where he has been directing the Hoover Chair in Economic and Social Ethics since its creation in 1991 (http://www.etes.ucl.ac.be/). He joined Harvard's Philosophy Department on a part-time basis in January 2005 and will be teaching in the area of political philosophy in the Spring semesters of 2005, 2006 and 2008. His research interests include theories of justice, the reshaping of welfare states, the challenges arising from cultural and especially linguistic diversity, and the future of democracy.
