During the 1940-1941 academic year, Carnap taught "Seminary in Logic," "Principles of Empiricism," and "Introduction to Analytic Philosophy" as a visiting professor in the Department.

Bertrand Russell and Alfred Tarski were also visiting professors that year, teaching, respectively, in the Departments of Philosophy and Mathematics.
