Joint J.D./Ph.D

Overview

The Department of Philosophy participates in the Coordinated JD/Ph.D. program, in which students study concurrently for the JD and a Ph.D.

Students interested in the program must apply to and be separately admitted to both the Law School and the Department of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

General Requirements

The requirements for the Philosophy Ph.D. for students in the Coordinated program are the same as for other students.

The JD for students in the Coordinated program may be completed in five semesters. Students in the Coordinated JD/Ph.D. program may begin their studies in either program.

The first two semesters of law and the first four semesters of philosophy must be taken consecutively; after that, the student may alternate semesters between the two programs.
