Joa Alexander's Study Abroad Experience
Joa Alexander, a junior East Asian Studies Concentrator from Tarrytown, New York, spent the 2008 summer in China studying intensive Chinese. After immersing herself in Chinese language, Joa gained the confidence to tackle other difficult languages. She is currently spending the semester in Seoul, Korea studying Korean at Ewha Womans University.
"These new experiences have given me a whole new set of perspectives on certain aspects of life, culture and relationships, as well as enabling me to apply theses experiences to my studies at school in a way that would not have been possible had I not gone to China... My interest in China and East Asia has only strengthened after this trip, and I am more determined than ever to make academic and social contributions using what I have learned abroad in conjunction with my studies."
