César Márquez's Study Abroad Experience
César Márquez, a senior Psychology Concentrator from Elmwood Park, Illinois, spent the summer term 2008 in Oaxaca, Mexico interning at various hospitals within the region.
"I learned so much about my own culture, the one I thought I knew about already...my eyes have been opened to the realities of the world that exist outside of the safe walls that enclose the United States...my experiences allowed me to grow as much as a person as a lifelong learner, becoming an aware and an informed citizen of the world.
"I learned more not only about the huge health disparities between the two countries, but I also learned about myself…I now know that I possess as much compassion and empathy for others. Academically, my deep interest in medicine and public health was reaffirmed. I know that my calling in life is to help others in need, those that truly need to be helped."
