MANDATE
STANDING COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION ABROAD
The Committee on Education Abroad was established by the vote of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on December 14, 1982. Its name changed from Committee on Out-of-Residence Study in 2004. The Committee monitors and assists the development of Harvard College study abroad and internship programs and other foreign research and learning opportunities for undergraduates.
The Committee provides faculty guidance and oversight for the Office of International Programs. It counsels the director of the Office of International Programs on new ventures, the modification of procedures, the development of informational resources, and strategic planning. It may from time to time recommend modifications in relevant policies to the Dean of the Faculty.
The Committee monitors the quality and appropriateness of the international opportunities available to Harvard College students. It sets and monitors standards, particularly where Harvard College credit is to be given. The Committee judges student applications for credit for study abroad in fields or institutions not eligible for automatic approval.
