J. F. Coakley


Dr. Coakley came to the Department in 1993, before which he was Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at Lancaster University in England. There he taught early Christian and New Testament subjects. His appointment in NELC is half time, the other half being in Houghton Library. His special interests include manuscript studies; the history of biblical exegesis in Syriac; the history of Syriac churches in the modern period; Western-church missions in the Middle East; and the history of printing in oriental languages.
