Khaled Al-Masri comes to Harvard from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is completing his Ph.D. in Arabic Literature. Mr. Al-Masri's dissertation topic is "Representations of Violence, Gender, and Sexuality in Contemporary Arabic Fiction." His other interests include twentieth-century Arabic literature; nineteenth-century intellectual history of the Arab world; gender studies; and literary theory.

Prior to his work at Michigan, Mr Al-Masri completed his M.A. and B.A. both in Arabic Language and Literature, at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. He served as Director 'in Residence' for the University of Virginia/Yarmouk University Summer Arabic Program for five years, and has taught Arabic at the University of Michigan, Oberlin College, the University of Virginia, Emory and Henry College, and Yarmouk University, among others. Mr Al-Masri is the recipient of the Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship Award from the University of Michigan and has recently presented papers at the MESA (Middle Eastern Studies Association) annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, and at Princeton University.
