1.    Acquisitions:

East Asian Library of the University of Pittsburgh does not receive any new shipment of the Western art exhibition catalogs since the Library received the last shipment in May 2004. Therefore, the total number of volumes the Library received remains 780 volumes.

In June 2004, the Library received complimentary copies of the report Nihon no Bijutsu Tenrankai Kaisai Jisseki 1945-2000 and its supplement Nihon no Bijutsu Tenrankai Jisseki 2001-2003 from the Japan Association for Culture Exchange (ACE Japan). These reports include data of over 23,000 art exhibitions held at major museums in Japan, based on the research in March 2003 and March 2004 respectively. Each record includes: exhibition title, exhibition period, exhibition organizers, type of exhibition, publication of catalogs, and the holding information of 5 major art libraries in the Tokyo metropolitan area (libraries of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Tokyo National Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Yokohama Museum of Art; and the Art Catalog Library).

Ms. Kanamaru of ACE Japan asked the Library to limit the use of these reports within the faculty members of the University for research purposes only, since they are not official publications.

2.    Cataloging

The Temporary Assistant Japanese Cataloger started to work at the Library from October 2004 but she is still in the training period. The Cataloger, who stated to work from May 2004, has been assigned 50% of his time on bibliographic work since the Japanese Bibliographer left for Columbia in June. Therefore, the Library has not started to catalog the JAC Western Project. The Library is planning to start the Project next year.

3.    The Project Transfer

Mr. Tetsuo Tsujimura, Director of the Office of Planning and Development, the National Art Center, Tokyo, and Mr. Yoshihiko Wakumoto, president of ACE Japan, informed the Library that the collection of art exhibition catalogs at the Art Catalog Library was transferred to the National Art Center, Tokyo. In accordance with the transfer, the Art Catalog Library terminated its library services and the National Art Center, Tokyo will take over the JAC Project from the year 2005.
