Visit to the Kokubungaku Kenkyu Shiryokan (National Institute of Japanese Literature)

Following formal greetings from the NIJL staff, we were given a tour of the building including the reading room and the stacks. We were shown how the library endeavors to make print versions of materials available in microform to facilitate accessibility and photocopying. In the closed stacks area, we learned that they are currently packing materials into boxes in preparation for a move to a new facility, scheduled for mid-2006. Back in the conference room, we were shown some of the institute's databases. A couple of the databases require user registration, but the majority are immediately accessible by the public. A complete list of the National Institute of Japanese Literature's databases can be found at http://www.nijl.ac.jp/contents_e/d_library/index.html.
