Visit to the Nichibunken (International Research Center for Japanese Studies):
We were given demonstrations of some of the databases that are being currently developed. A complete list of the
Nichibunken Databases is available at:
http://www.nichibun.ac.jp/graphicversion/dbase/database_e.html
The databases are subdivided into two categories:
Rare Books and Research Materials and
Japanese Studies Research Materials. Most of the databases are available free of charge, but there are a few--particularly image databases--that require registration in order to obtain full access, including Foreign Images of Japan, Japanese Art in Overseas Collections, and Enpon (Ukiyoe Erotic Books).
At the end of our visit, we toured the Nichibunken library. We were all very impressed with the beauty of its tasteful round interior design, which resembles the British Museum Library. See also
