Saucer, 2002
Mahogany, pine, walnut, purple-heart, aluminum, brass
This piece is a combination of a found chafing dish stand, and an aluminum lid that used to belong to an old sauté pan.
Flying saucers, Hanukah dreidels and human anatomy stimulated the design process. The vessel was formed by turning a massive block of three different types of sliced wood tablet, sandwiched together by glue. The vessel and its lid can be separated from the tripod entirely, or the lid can be lifted by its wooden knob.
This piece appeared in the book 500 Wood Bowls, Lark books, 2004.
