Roof table, 2000

Pine, stainless steel, bronze, brass.

To connect the rails to the legs I crafted hefty mortise and tenon joints, but I also designed twelve articulated fastening units, made from stainless steel, bronze and brass parts to lock the joints tight. I did not wanted to glue the parts together for two reasons: Even the best adhesive, when used to connect outdoor furniture joints, is prone to fail, that is why most outdoor furniture are connected with bolts, screws, or just nails. Second, I wanted to let the clients an option to brake-down the table for future moves; this joint, made of a Head nut, a threaded rod, and an anchoring barrel will make this possible..
