Hat rack , 2002 In its previous life the hat rack was a Windsor chair at Harvard University. The chair was tossed away one day. We found it broken with some of its limbs missing. I extracted its six beautiful spindles, armrest, four legs and the entire back. Then I reassembled them around a tall post. Later, I fitted wooden balls in positions that are suitable for placing hats. Finally, I topped it off with a copper finial made of a toilet tank float ball. The composition and the paint scheme is a celebration of shapes and forms reminiscent of the architectural details that characterized the chair’s surroundings during its former life on campus. |
