Please print the examples before watching the videos. * * * * * HOMEWORK 6, PART 2 EXTENSION!!! * * * * * Since a number of people are still trying to finish the Swing homework, Dr. Leitner decided to extend the due date until Thursday 4/23 at 5:00 PM. It should be submitted using the number 62. If you have already submitted but would like to do further work on it, you may do so and resubmit, and it will overwrite your earlier submission. HOMEWORK 7: The new homework was handed out at lecture and is available in the CoursePack. It will be due on May 4th, and should be submitted using the number 71. There will be one final homework for unit 8 after this. 4/15/09 VIDEOS: The videos of Monday's lecture and section are now available. Please print the examples before watching the videos. Please print the lecture examples before viewing the videos. HOMEWORK 6, PART 1: The new homework was handed out on Monday. It has only one program, and will be due next week Monday, April 6th! It should be submitted using the number 61. SWING PROGRAMS: With the new unit, we are beginning to program with Graphical User Interfaces. To help you get started, you may want to look at the Swing page, also linked on the Java page. This will show you some basics to help you with the initial homework. 3/18/09 VIDEOS: The video of Monday's section is now available at right. The lecture video will be available tomorrow. 3/14/09 PRACTICE MIDTERM KEY: The key for the practice midterm is now available. Please print the programs before viewing the lecture. MIDTERM EXAM: We will have our midterm exam (one hour) next Monday. If you are a distance student, please make your proctor arrangements asap! You can sign up for the exam on the Extension Website. HOMEWORK 5, PART 3: The new homework was handed out in class on Monday and will be due on March 23. It should be submitted electronically using the number 53. PRACTICE MIDTERM: There is also a practice midterm in the CoursePack - the answer key will be posted later this week. 2/26/09 * * * * * HOMEWORK UPDATE * * * * * For Homework 5, Part 2, when you write the BarCode program, you may use a String for the zipCode instance variable - it is not required to be an int! This will simplify processing zip codes with an initial zero. For the JunkMail problem (extra credit), since we have not covered files and I/O, we are delaying it until the next homework, which will probably be due on March 16th. You may wait and hand it in at that time for the listed extra credit points. 2/25/09 VIDEOS: The videos of Monday's lecture and section are now available at right. Please print the new slides and programs before viewing the lecture. ELLUMINATE SECTIONS: The Elluminate sections are now linked at left also. 2/14/09 SECTIONS: The section program has now been turned off, and all students are assigned to sections. You may find out your section assignment (if you did not run the program) on the section page. If you did not run the program, please e'mail the course staff (libe50b@fas.harvard.edu) for info on accessing the page. PRESIDENTS DAY: Monday (2/16) is Presidents Day, which is an Extension School holiday. There will not be a lecture and the Monday section will not meet. Other sections during the week will meet as usual. ONLINE SECTION: The online section in Elluminate now has its link posted on the Sections page (linked at left). We will be using Elluminate both for the section on Wednesdays, as well as office hours and individual help. Please feel free to have a look at the info, and to drop in on these section meetings. 2/11/09 VIDEOS: The videos of Monday's lecture and section are now available at right. Please print the new slides before viewing the lecture. Authentication is now on for videos - you will need to log in with your HUID and PIN. HOMEWORK 5 PART 2: The new homework was posted and will be due on March 2nd. It should be submitted using the number 52. It is located in the CoursePack directory. PROTECTED PAGES: Some pages of the website are now password-protected. The login information is contained in the initial message for CSCI E-50b that you see in your FAS account (if you have run the section program!). 2/6/09 SECTIONS: The section program is now available! To run the program, you will need to connect to nice.harvard.edu in SecureCRT or your Terminal. At the prompt, type the command: ice3:~ % ~libe50b/bin/section You will be asked to enter your name, and then you will see a list of available sections. Please select the section you would like to be in. SECTIONS ARE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE BASIS! If you sign up for one section and then want to change your decision, you may rerun the program. There will be an online section in Elluminate on Wednesday evenings. HOMEWORK CORRECTION: A number of you have asked about Question [5] on this homework, to reverse an array. We are adjusting the question so that you may pass TWO parameters - the array, and a size. If you have already devised a working solution with only a single parameter (the array), you may also submit that.
