| PRELIMINARY
INFO: This software will work best if you have a set of headphones to use for the audio. If you have a headset for VoiP (headphones and mic), feel free to use that also. I will probably limit the audio to myself for this first session until we are all used to the software. You may, however, feel free to communicate with me, each other, or the whole group using the Chat window. If you would like to look over information about this software ahead of time, you may do so on the Elluminate website. The "Quick Reference Guide"(PDF) listed in step 3 will give you a screen shot and information about the various elements of the software. I will have an e'mail window open as folks are connecting and setting up - if you have trouble and can't get things to run, send me an e'mail and I'll see what I can do. When you finish the session, please go up to the Session menu and select "Leave Session." If you would like to save the whiteboards and the chat session, you may do so by going to File, Save. Save the whiteboard as a PDF (change the default) and the chat as a text file, so you can open them. |
1. Click
the link above for the Elluminate Class Page. This
will open a browser and bring up a window to set yourself up. ![]() 2. Select your operating system and click the button to get the software. If you are on a Mac, you can go directly to Step 2. After you have gotten the software (if you need it), click the button in Step 2 that says "Start Elluminate Live!". |
| 3. You will get a page asking you to type in your name. Please enter
your first and last names so we don't have a problem of two people
with the same first name. Then click "Login". This will bring up a popup asking to open a file named "meeting.jnlp". This is a little Java applet that will set up the software for you. Click OK. |
4. You will see it download the applet, then it will begin to open and
set up. You may also see a box named "Verify Certificate" asking
you to trust the applet. Click "Trust". |
5. After
this, you will see a blue box showing the application starting. As
it sets up, you will then get a box asking you to select your connection
speed. Choose your connection type from the dropdown menu and click
OK. You will then see a message that it's connecting, and after a
moment you should see the Elluminate desktop show up. |
| The desktop will have various areas; a list of participants, a chat window, the ability to set up and adjust the Audio, and a large whiteboard area where we can work together. We'll talk about these areas and how we can use the software during our session. After you have finished the session, you may throw away "meeting.jnlp" that was downloaded. |
