7th Annual Harvard Korean Studies Graduate Student Conference

Sue-jean Cho

On March 9, 2002, the Korea Institute sponsored the seventh annual Korean Studies Graduate Student Conference at Harvard University. Professor Carter Eckert opened the day-long conference which included panels on Korean literature, Korean diaspora studies, Christianity in Korea, and Korean history and politics. Student presenters hailed from Columbia University, Princeton University, the Ohio State University, and Harvard University. The conference also drew presenters from the Academy of Korean Studies and Stockholm University. The conference ended with an open discussion on the future of Korean studies. During this discussion, student presenters, faculty discussants, and attendees of the conference participated in a lively exchange bringing together the myriad topics and issues that were raised during the panel presentations. Sue-Jean Cho and Julianna Lee (the 2002 Conference organizers) would like to thank all those who helped make this conference a success, including the Korea Foundation who provided the conference with its generous support.
