Nineteenth-century United States, with particular emphasis on social and economic history. Interests include the social history of politics in the era of the Civil War, business history, and the history of the United States in global perspective. Courses on nineteenth century American capitalism, Gilded Age America, labor history and global capitalism. Currently at work on a global history of cotton in the nineteenth century.
