About Us
Instructional Media Services (IMS)
IMS provides a variety of media services to help the Harvard community integrate audio and video multimedia for curricular, administrative, research, special event, and outreach use. Our staff has experience with a wide range of presentation and recording technologies, diverse media and we are equipped to handle a wide variety of current and legacy analog materials and digital file formats.
Media & Technology Services (MTS)
We can -
- assist customers with event media planning
- train on specific equipment and locations
- provide media equipment including in-room computers and laptops
- loan keys to access in-room media systems
- facilitate IP and ISDN video-conferences
- coordinate DVD and film rentals for classes
- produce and edit video content (limited availability)
- offer urgent response services during office hours
- maintain FAS media systems
- consult on FAS media installations and equipment
- staff events with a technician(s)
Our technicians can -
- record audio and video in a variety of media formats
- deliver recorded media for web distribution
- provide audio reinforcement and playback
- assist customers with complex event presentations
- coordinate complex presentations
While MTS primarily works with FAS, we also provide services to the entire Harvard community including alumni, the graduate schools, Extension and Summer Schools. Non-Harvard requests are accepted as time permits.
Media Production Center (MPC)
We can -
- edit and index material
- prepare media files for web or disc distribution
- duplicate CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and audio cassettes
- design custom DVD menus and disc packaging
- convert analog and digital tape media to digital file formats
- perform analog and digital video standards conversion
- record audio in-studio and on location
- host IP and ISDN video-conferences
Our facility features a studio that can be used to record:
- foreign language instructional materials
- voiceovers
- audio books
- radio and podcast audio
- interview and "talking head" videos
While MPC primarily works with the FAS community, we also provide services to the entire Harvard community including alumni, the graduate schools, Extension and Summer Schools.
IT Support for MTS Classroom Computers and Laptops
IMS-IT maintains MTS's supply of laptops and computers in FAS classrooms. We assist MTS with computer and network support for instruction and events. In addition, we provide IT support for all IMS offices. IMS-IT coordinates with FAS Computer Services and other IT departments.
