How to Get to Naples

Via Airplane

The closest domestic and international airport to Ischia is Capodichino Airport just outside of Naples. If you are flying to Italy from the U.S., it is likely that you will stopover at Malpensa Airport in Milan or Fiumicino Airport in Rome, and then make a connecting flight to Naples. There are direct flights into Naples from Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Munich and Brussels, in addition to national flights from Rome and Milan.

Via Train

You can reach Naples by train. There are three main train stations in Naples: Central Station (or Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, which is located exactly under the Central Station), Mergellina Station, and Campi Flegrei Station. The train service from Rome is frequent, and the trip takes a little over two hours.

Within Naples

There is a direct airline bus service called Alibus which connects Naples Airport, Central Rail Station, and Molo Beverello harbour, no other stops. Service starts at 6.30 and stops at 23.30, trips each 30 minutes. Fare about 3 Euro. Tickets can be purchased at the information desk in Arrivals or on the bus.

Regular bus from Airport to Central Rail Station/Piazza Garibaldi, line 3S. Fare 1 Euro. Tickets are valid for 90 minutes and cover all commuter traffic (bus, metro, local trains, trams) in the region. To reach the port at Molo Beverello from Stazione Centrale, you should first buy bus tickets from a news-stand in the station. A single ticket costs 1 Euro. The R2 bus departs from the far end of Piazza Garibaldi, in the centre of the traffic (past the rows of other buses). The journey takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic. You should alight by Piazza Municipio - just ask the driver or fellow passengers for Molo Beverello; there will probably be plenty of other travellers with suitcases taking the same trip. The ferry terminal is located at the bottom end of the square (on your left). Returning from the ferry to the station, you can take tram number 1, which stops in the middle of the road by the port (just where you would least expect a tram stop), or you can head uphill over the grassy area by the castle towards a row of pines to reach the R2 stop.

Taxi service is 24 hours a day. There are small extra charges for bags, plus additions for Sunday and holidays. An average ride from the airport to Molo Beverello is about 30 Euro.

Ferries to Ischia

Ischia can only be reached by ferry. There are several ferry lines that operate in the Bay of Naples. In the summer months services to Ischia and Capri are frequent and you can simply turn up at Molo Beverello in Naples, buy your ticket and take the next service. Please note, however, these do not operate 24 hours a day. The most popular route originates from the harbour area in central Naples called Molo Beverello . There is another route from Mergellina, and from Pozzuoli. The trip from Naples takes about 45 minutes (hydrofoil) or 1 hr 45 minutes (car ferry). The price ranges from 10-25 Euros round trip.

The most convenient route is to travel from Molo Beverello.

Molo Beverello: Two ferry lines and a hydrofoil leave Molo Beverello. Tickets can be purchased at the desk in the port. At peak times there are up to two ferries an hour. Please note the last ferry to Ischia leaves at 21.55. Some of the routes call at other islands first. Remember to make sure you disembark in Ischia not one of the other islands!
