Classroom Data Projection Help
Facilities for projecting Microsoft PowerPoint or ARTstor OIV presentations vary from location to location. To find out what projection facilities are in the room you are using, visit FAS Media and Technology Services.
If the room that you are using does not have the projection system you require (or has no projection system) then e-mail Media and Technology Services at least one week in advance of your presentation to try to arrange for projection equipment to be brought to the room. This service is provided free of charge and is based on availability and existing infrastructure.
If the room you are using is listed as having projection capability, then the following steps should serve as a rough outline for how to connect, although certain features will vary from computer to computer.
If the room you are using has a computer already set up for projection on site, follow these general step:
1. Power on the lectern computer.
2. Transfer the document to the classroom computer. This can be accomplished by either copying the document to a USB flash/memory stick, E-mailing the document to yourself, or burning the document to a CD
3. Power on the projection equipment by using the black wall control panel located behind/next to the lectern station.
4. After the projector turns on press the "Lectern Computer" button.
If you are bringing your own computer, then follow these general steps:
1.
Power on the projection equipment by using the black wall control panel located behind/next to the lectern station.
2. Once projection equipment is powered, on press the “PC” or "Laptop" button on the control panel.
3. Before turning on your computer, connect your computer to the multi-pin cord that you should find near the lectern or wall, or wherever speakers usually stand. The cable with the small plug is for sound; if you plan to use sound, insert this pin into your headphones jack.
4. Once console is turned on and the cable connected, turn on your computer.
For PC users, push Function and one of the Function keys (this varies by computer, but is generally Function + F7 or Function + F8) in order to have the display projected to the room.
For Mac/Apple users, attach the display cable from the wall and make adjustments in the “Display” panel of system preferences (found in the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen). In some Apples you can pull down the Display Preferences menu from the command bar at the top of the screen. For the sake of simplicity, be sure that you set “Mirroring” on so that the image that appears on your computer is the one that is projected to the room.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before leaving the classroom please power off the projection equipment and return screen to the up position. |
