Course Information

Find all your important course information here by following the links to the left. Students should consult with their tutors for advice about course selection and plans of concentration.

The first link lists our current HL90 seminars, taught by members of the History and Literature COD and tutorial board. The topics of these interdisciplinary seminars change every academic year. If space allows, they are also open to non-concentrators.

An important link is the list of courses that count for concentration credit. Students should consult the list for their particular field (Britain, Postcolonial, Medieval, America, etc.). Students in combined fields should consult the lists of courses for both countries. In addition to the courses listed here, students can also petition for other courses to be considered for concentration credit. See the Concentrator's Handbook for additional information about petitions.

All History and Literature students are required to take a foreign literature course where texts are read in the original language. Follow the "Foreign Lit. Requirement" link to see the list of approved courses.

Students in the America field should consult two additional links for courses that fulfill specific period requirements (from the colonial period to the 20th century) and for a list of suggested courses that satisfy the "America in the World" requirement.
