- My focus is on modern America (since 1865). Specifically:
- Immigration in history, literature, law, policy, and activism
- Ethnicity and race in literature and film
- Wars, their impacts and their representations (e.g., responses to Mexican and Russian revolutions, involvement in the World Wars and their aftermaths, Vietnam and its legacy, interventions in Central America)
- Modernisms (comparative; fiction, poetry, drama)
- International social activism, humanitarianism, relief efforts, pacifism, and human rights
- Political dissent, violence, persecution, and asylum
- The family
- DISSERTATION TOPIC OR TITLE: Refugees and the Changing Meaning of Refuge in the America in the 20th Century. My dissertation focuses on the refugee problem in American political and intellectual culture and case studies of refugee experiences and narratives.
