Nikolas Bowie is a PhD candidate in history at Harvard University. He graduated from Yale College in 2009 and Harvard Law School in 2014. Between 2014 and 2016 he clerked for Judge Jeffrey Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals and Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Nikolas's dissertation, Corporate America: A History of Corporate Statehood, examines the relationship between corporations and government from the Massachusetts Bay Company to present-day Massachusetts. The central theme is how Americans have understood corporations as forms of government in contrast to legal persons or property.
