Continental Airlines is offering a discounted rate of $525.00 for flights for the January Service-Learning Program!

In Beijing, there are about 200,000 children of rural migrant workers. Many of them don’t have the opportunity to go to school due to lack of city resident permit… In Tianjin, kids in the international SOS orphanage are growing and studying with dreams… In Inner Mongolia, how do children of nomadic tribes access education? How does nomadic culture get passed down?

Want to see the real China? Want to find out the reality of the Chinese primary education system? Please come to join us!

In January of 2010 the Harvard China Fund will launch a 2-3 week long Harvard China Winter Service Program. The program is open to both Harvard University undergraduate and graduate students in all areas of concentration, and no Chinese language skills are required.

The program will start in Beijing with a week-long orientation at Peking University. Professors of Sociology and Education will give classes about China’s education system and Chinese history and culture. Students will then complete one week of community service and research with a group of Peking University students in either Inner Mongolia, Tianjin or Beijing. A debriefing of the week will take place at the Harvard Shanghai Office before students depart for Boston to begin their spring semester.

The application deadline is set for October 23rd. Please e-mail Jamie Romine (jamie_romine@harvard.edu) for more information.
