OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE HARVARD SQUARE AREA
for Participants in the
Twenty-eighth Annual Harvard Celtic Colloquium
October 10, 11, and 12, 2008
Harvard University
GENERAL INFORMATION: Guests will be responsible for contacting and securing their own accommodations for the conference. Prices shown below are current as of March 2008 and subject to change without notice. Please be sure to inquire at the time of reservation if you have special access, health or nutritional requirements. Hotels with special Harvard Colloquium rates are indicated in bold italics.
TRANSPORTATION: Harvard Square is convenient to public transit. Note, however, that MBTA fares have increased significantly during the past few years: a one-way bus ride now costs $1.50 (exact change, though you can now use dollar bills); a one-way subway ride, $2.00. You can reduce these prices somewhat by buying a plastic, stored-value "Charlie Card," which brings the price down to $1.25 per ride for the bus and $1.70 per ride for the subway. After obtaining a card from a customer service agent inside any MBTA (the "T") station, you can "charge it up" with any amount you wish at the nearby machines, using cash or a credit card. For more information, visit the T’s website at http://www.mbta.com. Free shuttles to the T are still available from Logan Airport, although you can now board the new Silver Line there, which connects directly to the Red Line and Cambridge. Maps with schedules are available in some T stations and online at http://www.mbta.com. Most of the hotels listed below are either walking distance or a short ride from Harvard Square. Transportation from B&Bs to Harvard Square could be slightly more complicated. Please ask for their location relative to Harvard Square when you make reservations.
