Matthew Clair ![]() Year: 2009 House: Dunster Concentration: Government Email: mkclair@fas Description: The Harvard Foundation and the diversity of the Harvard community have made Harvard a great experience for me. As an intern at the Foundation, I have gotten to meet many dynamic individuals from several different walks of life. As Co-Director of Cultural Rhythms, I have been able to interact with and experience the varied cultural traditions of my peers. Outside of the Foundation, I am President of the Black Pre-Law Association, a former board member of the Black Students Association and a tutor with Tenacity, where we encourage the development of literacy skills in teenagers and also teach them basic tennis skills. My most meaningful activity at Harvard, though, has been my work on the second edition to the Black Guide to Life at Harvard. As co-editor of the book, I have worked hours on end for the past year to discover the history of blacks at Harvard and develop a narrative to describe the current position of black students, faculty and staff, while taking into account our historical context at the university. The book is nearly finished and has framed much of my experience at the college. |
