The Carpenter Center Film History/Film Theory Seminar
Several times each term, this seminar sponsors a lecture by a prominent scholar in the field of film studies. In 2007–08, speakers included Kay Dickinson (Goldsmiths College, University of London), Lee Grieveson (University College London), Bill Marshall (University of Glasgow), Judith Mayne (Ohio State University), Scott McDonald (Hamilton College), and Yuri Tsivian (University
of Chicago). Lectures will be listed in the Carpenter Center newsletter and on
the department web site.
The Carpenter Center Lectures
Three times a semester, on Thursday evenings, the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts hosts a prominent visiting artist or critic to discuss her or his
work. These lectures occur in the main lecture hall on the bottom floor of the Carpenter Center. In 2007–08 the speakers were Miwon Kwon, Matt Coolidge, Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck, Catherine Lord, Renée Green, and Jeff Koons. A schedule of lectures can be found on the web site for VES.
Cinematic
This student-run magazine offers
in-depth, scholarly film reviews as well as analyses of trends and innovations
shaping the industry. It features writing
by students, critics, and professors as
well as extended interviews with major
directors. It is published semi-annually.
Harvardwood
Harvardwood, a nonprofit organization, provides information and networking
for Harvard alumni working in the arts and entertainment field. It runs Harvardwood 101, an intersession
introduction to Hollywood careers, and
a vast clearinghouse for summer
internships.
Film Study Library at Sever Hall
The Film Study Library has a large, non-circulating collection of videos, including many rare titles, located on the fourth floor of Sever Hall. The library also includes viewing facilities. The collection is not listed in Hollis but can be accessed at the FSL.
Morse Music & Media Library
Located on the second floor of Lamont Library, Morse houses a large circulating collection of videos and DVDs with state-of-the-art viewing equipment. The collection is cataloged in HOLLIS.
