September 12-13, 2008 This symposium brought together historians from East Asia and the United States to discuss the results of international projects over the past two decades that have aimed to address contentious issues in Sino-Japanese relations. Panel discussions focused on initiatives led by overseas scholars, current interpretative debate on contentious issues, and prospects for furthering historical studies in East Asia. The symposium was organized by the Harvard Yenching Institute, and supported principally by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, along with the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies, Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, and the Harvard Asia Center.
