Wilson was born on June 10, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in a series of towns mostly in Alabama, but also Florida, as well as Washington, DC. After earning a B.S. and M.S. in biology at the University of Alabama he entered the graduate program of the University of Tennessee, then transferred to Harvard University, at which he earned a Ph.D. in 1955. In 1956 he joined the Harvard faculty where, after 49 years of service, he is now Pellegrino University Professor Emeritus and Honorary Curator in Entomology. Wilson lives in Lexington, Massachusetts, with his wife Renee. This presentation is the eighth in a series of lectures sponsored by the Evolution and Theology of Cooperation Project at Harvard University, directed by Professors Sarah Coakley and Martin Nowak and supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
