Stability of Nongeostrophic Flows

The goal of the project on the stability of nongeostrophic flows is to extend this theory to situations in which the geostrophic approximation is not valid. These flows support buoyancy waves in addition to the vorticity waves found in geostrophically balanced flows and the interaction between the manifold of vorticity waves and that of buoyancy waves is a fundamental interest in this study.
