| Dudley holds an open call for all sections in early September. Additional auditions are scheduled throughout the year, based on the orchestra's needs. Preference is given to Dudley House members (Harvard GSAS grad students and residents of the Dudley Co-op). When there are no interested Dudley members who are qualified to fill a given position, that spot is opened up to all other musicians in the greater Boston area. Such openings are usually available in all string and brass sections, and in some woodwind and percussion sections.
Audition update For the audition, you should prepare two short, contrasting selections that show you off at your best -- orchestral excerpts, solo works, and etudes are all fine. Sight-reading of simple passages may also be asked. Those auditioning for principal string chairs should also prepare a movement or extended excerpt from a solo work. [One note about auditions: I know they're stressful and no one likes them. That said, we do everything we can to make them as comfortable and painless as possible. If you're interested in joining the group, please don't let the audition dissuade you.] |
